Detailed Initiatives
It's easy to become blinded by the digital lights. New apps, websites, collaborations, social media advertising opportunities, the list goes on and will continue to grow as technology develops at an ever increasing pace. Moore's Law, which correctly theorised the doubling of computer processing speed every 18 months, is just one manifestation of the greater trend that all technological change occurs at an exponential rate.
It took 8000 years to move from the Agricultural Revolution and the first Industrial Revolution when, in 1784 the first mechanical loom was invented. By 1870, less than 100 years later, the second Industrial Revolution was kickstarted by the introduction of electricity for mass production. In 1969, the first programmable logic controller introduced us to robotisation and the third Industrial Revolution. Beginning with the introduction of the internet as a mainstream form of communication in 1990, we are now living through the very beginning of the fourth Industrial Revolution. Each major step that has been taken in human industrial development is taking less and less time, whilst development moves at an ever increasing speed.
It isn't possible to predict exactly what the future holds. What we can be sure of is that unless we approach digital proactively, making business decisions by first and foremost considering customer needs and experience, we cannot hope to meet expectations. If we can't meet, or ideally exceed, consumer expectations, we can't hope to meet our potential, as a group, as a division or as individuals.
In the overarching digital strategy for BMMI Group and the introduction to this roadmap, we have explained why we need to change. We have then outlined a methodology to follow in order to make those changes. What follows are a number of detailed initiatives, specific to BMMI Shops. Sequential steps that start by laying operational foundations for success before moving on to developing BMMI Shops' approach towards a conjoined and improved digital customer experience.
